Thompson, Samuel J.

He first appeared as a daguerreian from 1850 to 1852 at 57 State Street, Albany, N.Y., in partnership as Thompson and Douglas. One source placed him in partnership with Walker (S.L.) and Douglas in a new firm in 1851. In 1852, he was listed as a daguerreian at 480 Broadway, Albany. Circa October, 1852, he took in James Green as a partner; Green was formerly with Sisson and Green. In 1853-1854, Thompson was listed at 480 Broadway, in partnership as Thompson and Green (J.B.) at the "Excelsior Daguerreian Rooms."

In 1853, Thompson and Green opened additional rooms in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. In July, 1853, they were burned out. They were, however, able to occupy other rooms at Saratoga that summer, rooms normally occupied by N.S. Bennett. In November, 1853, Thompson purchased S.D. Humphrey's daguerreian establishment at (546) Broadway, New York City. (One reference in Humphrey's Journal identifies the purchaser as "J.J. Thompson".)

Circa November, 1854, Thompson and Green dissolved their partnership; Green kept the old establishment, and Thompson set up a new gallery. In 1855, Thompson was listed alone as a daguerreian at 496 Broadway, Albany. In 1856, he was listed as a daguerreian at 56 State Street, Albany.
